Dedh Ishqiya: Worth Watching.
Dedh Ishqiya is absolutely “dedh” of its prequel Ishqiya in many aspects but may not at everything. Star power, crisp screenplay , strong storyline to surprise you , raunchy dialogues , brilliant cinematography , hummable songs , the much loved duo of “Khalu and Babban ” and last but not the least comeback of yesteryear’s diva ” Mrs. Nene”.
I liked Ishqiya much better, this time the beauty of Dedh Ishqiya lies in its details. The adventurous journey of Khalu and Babban, takes them to the land of Nawabs this time. A pat on the back of Abhishek Chaubey for showcasing the glorious period of our ancient culture, mesmerizing moments of mushaira bejeweled in the deep voice of Naseer Sahab, and a yesteryear’s gorgeous fort in its glooming period trapped spectacularly in the interplay of dark lights and shadows. It’s a commendable job by cinematographer Setu and production designers Subrata Chakrabarty and Amit Ray.
An imposter as Nawab(Naseer Sahab), his other hand Babban (Arshad Warsi) a beautiful ageing Begum ( Madhuri Dixit) and her only confidant Muniya( Huma Qureshi), a local MLA who secretly desires to be the next Nawab (Vijay Raaz) and a thriller set amidst this to surprise you enough, there is a hidden secret behind everything that appears beautiful.
The length of the film may be a problem, there are some scenes which could be easily waived off, however, the editing is still sharp. Great performances by lead actors, raw and rustic humor in the darkest situation and strong screenplay, these are the reasons enough to watch Dedh Ishqiya. Go for it!!!!
PS: My favorite scene from the movie is its climax where we see a train moving reverse (it’s rib-tickling) and a complete action sequence shot with a classical tune in the background and no dhishum-dhishum. Let’s welcome this breath of fresh air with all smiles.
