THE PREQUEL WAS EFFORTLESSLY HILARIOUS, SEQUEL TRIES IT TOO HARD.
CinemaAndBeyond’s rating: 2/5.
There are some movies which just strike the right chord at once and leave nothing best for later as all things are said and done. They should not be retouched and that too only to be spoiled in the name of part 2. The cardinal rule for sequels is either to carry ahead the story or excel than it’s prequel. Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2 fails in both. There is no novelty in terms of story and plots and almost in casting too. The only growth is that men have become dumber and women, shallower.
While all men loved and occasionally women too, the prequel for fresh treatment in showing the complications of modern day relationships from the eyes of the darker sexes, the sequel has nothing new to offer. Three friends who work at day, go clubbing at night, desperate to have a woman, falling in love is a folly business and being tamed by women is even easier but getting rid of them, no way.
And the three couples are: _
1) Gogo (Kartik Aaryan) and Chiku (Nushrat Bharucha), straight out of nail spa girl who keeps her best friend above her boyfriend.
2)Thakur (Omkar Kapoor) and Kusum (Ishita Sharma), the girl who loves to control and eyes on her boy friend’s credit card.
3)Chauka (Sunny Singh) and Supriya (Sonali Seygall), the kind of girl who exploits boys for their household work and ditch at the end in the name of the family.
However what appeared as a battle of sexes and even sexist on part one, the demeaning characterization of women is pure misogyny in PKP2.
The prequel had some punch, the audiences instantly connected to the Trio of Rajjo, Vikky and Liquid, their abusive language, frustrating IT jobs and bromance which one will heavily miss in part two.
If Luv Ranjan, the director had not made a similar movie 4 years back, Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2 would have been enjoyable. But as Gogo says, who likes soup after deserts. The film still has it’s hilarious moments, the frustration of Chauka over Supriya’s father, Chiku’s obsession with 5 shades of pink and the trademark monologue of Gogo and this time for 7 mins.
Omkar Kapoor, the child actor(Masoom Fame) has grown into handsome hunk and gives a poised performance, Kartik Aryan shows it in the 7 mints monologue. Sunny Singh’s comic timing and Nusrat Bharucha’s baby voice outshines among others. Liquid (Divyendu Sharma) and Vikrant (Rayo S Bakhirta) will be badly missed. No mention of music, it’s not worth. The direction of Luv Ranjan has only deteriorated with the sequel. If the only motive of makers is to fill their pockets by making the same movie over and over, then definitely this film will bring money.
