
Yes, Asif Kapadia, an Indian origin, British filmmaker bagged best documentary feature at the 88th Academy Awards for his tribute to jazz singer Amy Winehouse. Amy has also won 69th British Academy Film Award, Moët British Independent Film Awards in the same category and The Hollywood Film Awards as well as was nominated for L’Œil d’or and The Queer Palm in Cannes.
On the other hand, Sharmeen Obai- Chinoy, a Pakistani journalist,activist and filmmaker won her second Academy Award for film “A Girl in the River: The Price of Forgiveness” in the best documentary short category. She had won her first Oscar for her 2012 documentary “Saving Face”.

Along with them , Rahul Thakkar, a technician of Indian origin has been presented with Technical Achievement Award for his contribution to cinema through “groundbreaking design.”
He has worked on the visual effects of many renowned films like Shrek, The Legend of Bagger Vance, Antz.He is the inventor of over 25 patents and patent applications, and has edited several technical books and web standards documents.

And lastly, Cottalango Leon, a Tamil, Indian-American computer graphics technician has jointly won the Academy Award for scientific and technical achievement. Leon, at the age of 44, has won the 2016 Academy Award for scientific and technical achievement for “the design, engineering and continuous development” of Sony Pictures Imageworks itView technology.
They have definitely made all of us proud.
